Wedding Flowers Made Simple

Choosing your wedding flowers should be one of the most exciting and enjoyable parts of planning your big day, but with so many options, it can feel overwhelming. From seasonal flowers to maximising your budget, here’s everything you need to know to make it feel easy.

Style & theme

A great place to start is thinking about your day as a whole. What is the style and theme for the day? Elegant or rustic, laid back or bold and extravagant? Who are you as a couple, how do you want to express this? Match the flowers to your vibe and you can’t go wrong.

Colour Palette

Are you making a statement with bold, bright stand out colours, or going for a soft neutral palette? This will tie in with the style and theme of the day.

Think about the venue, the dresses/suits and accessories, the stationary and props. If your venue has busy patterned carpets, art covering the walls and low lighting, you might be best to opt for white and neutral tones and classic shapes. Or if the venue is a light, bright, blank canvas then super colourful, playful and large structural arrangements might be the way to go.

In Season

Spring, Summer, Autumn or Winter? Consider whats in season on your wedding date, the weather (although not always reliable) will play a part in what flowers will be available and how to style the venue. A cosy inside Winter wedding or a Summer garden ceremony will be considered very differently, and following the seasons always works best.

Some seasonal favourites:

Spring - Narcissus, Tulips, Ranunculus, Blossom, Icelandic Poppies

Summer - Peonies, Dahlias, Sweet Peas, Garden Roses

Autumn - Chrysanthemums, Nerines, Hydrangeas, Amaranthus

Winter - Amaryllis, Hellebores, Anemone

Budget

Consider what is most important to you. Do you want to make a statement as soon as the guests arrive? Is the ceremony space the most important, or do you want luxurious dinner table florals? If you’re having lots of bridesmaids/groomsmen then the Bouquets and buttonholes might take up a lot of your budget, and should be a main focus.

Use your budget wisely - don’t spread the budget thin with lots of small elements across the whole venue and day, but put the money and focus in to less arrangements with more impact.

The florals can be moved throughout the day, repurpose as much as possible, to save money and create maximum use and impact from the arrangements.

Trends

Current trends might influence the theme of the day and the flowers you choose. While following a trend isn’t a bad thing, think about putting your own spin on things, and creating something timeless.

Will you look back at your wedding photos and wonder why you did what everyone else is doing? Or will you think how glad you were you chose butter yellow, or bows on everything? -(we love both these trends btw!). There’s no right or wrong, but choose what you love, instead of following a pinterest board to a t.

Technique

Is being kind to the environment important to you? We design with intention, using only sustainable and reusable mechanics. We never use floral foam or added chemicals. If British flowers are important to you we can help supply locally grown stems, plants and produce, and are aiming to expand our own cut flower garden.

Using sustainable mechanics allows us to experiment with shape and style. We aim to push the boundaries of Floral Design, from delicate table scaping, to large scale installations.

Inspiration

Find inspiration in nature, what’s growing? From Daffodils popping on the side of the road in Spring, or Autumn leaves carpeting the lawn. What scents do you love to have in your home? Fresh Basil, zingy Citrus fruits or warm Berries.

From your favourite holiday destination - Italian lemons and grapes, The Tulip fields in Holland, or Cornish Coastal grasses and dunes. The food you love - having an extravagant cake or colourful grazing boards, use all these elements to inspire you when thinking about your wedding florals.
